I was recently diagnosed with osteoporosis at 53, quite young for a man, and my primary care physician recommended I see a rheumatologist to discuss treatment options. I called Shore Physicians Group five weeks ago and requested an appointment. They explained that I would need a referral, which my family doctor faxed to them within two days, and I requested an appointment with Bonnie, the scheduler for rheumatology. When no one returned my call for two weeks, I followed up with two more phone calls and was told Bonnie was very busy and she would eventually get to me. Finally, the office explained that they had likely discarded my faxed referral because I was not registered with them as a new patient--something they had not told me to do. I then registered as a new patient and had a referral sent to them a second time along with medical records and blood tests. Five weeks after I first contacted them, they finally called and explained that they would not accept me as a patient based on my medical records and diagnosis of osteoporosis. They indicated that the referral from my primary care doctor was inappropriate, despite his recommendation that I specifically see a rheumatologist. In my opinion, the process could have been handled in a more professional, timely, and courteous manner.
Dr. Bulcha is by far one of the best doctors I have seen. She is willing to take all the time you need to feel comfortable and to answers all your questions and concerns. Thank you
